The Journey - Day Two

I often begin a painting with a fragment or two of printed matter, paper, or fabric pasted onto the surface--not so much in the spirit of making a collage, as I often nearly paint over these elements, but they give me a point of departure. This piece began with a silhouette of a horse. I do not ride horses or have a particular connection to the animal, but I am drawn to the symbolic possibilities--unrestrained freedom, power, and movement.
